Best Catholic prayers for team meetings (& how to pray as a team)

Do you and your team pray together?

"Who's going to lead prayer this week?"

Before I joined eCatholic, I worked for a different organization that also recognized the importance of team prayer. But whenever this question was posed to the group, everyone suddenly became overly interested in their fingernails. Or notepad. Or whatever allowed them to avoid making eye contact. ;)

Here at eCatholic, we regularly begin meetings with prayer. Our team, like yours, is rooted in service to the Church. We have so much to give thanks for...and we are in need of as much divine guidance and inspiration as we can get!

As a result, we've developed a go-to team prayer routine that helps our meetings get off on the right foot. Here are some of our favorite Catholic prayers for team meetings.

The Angelus

What better way to start a team meeting than with the Angelus? Rooted in scripture (and fairly well-known among many Catholics), its call-and-response format helps everyone get active and focused.

Prayer to St. Joseph the Worker

This prayer isn't quite as well known as the Angelus. However, you might fall in love with the Prayer to St. Joseph the Worker. (We have!)

Meant to be recited as a team, this prayer beautifully puts things into perspective: To love our teammates, to work patiently, and acknowledge the true meaning of our daily job duties.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

As Catholics, we believe in the reality of spiritual warfare: The fact that there are forces of evil trying to thwart the work of the Church. These evil spirits cringe whenever the Gospel is spread. To help guard against this battle, the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel is perfect for Catholic team meetings.

Here at eCatholic, we follow a specific routine for team prayer each week. To avoid an awkward experience, our CEO Josh Simmons has reached out to each team member to gauge their level of comfort in leading team prayer.

Once he knows who is up to the task of being the prayer leader, he picks a single person each week to lead the following Catholic prayer routine:

1. Start with the Angelus - To begin, the prayer leader starts the meeting by reciting the Angelus (mentioned above). If your team is remote like ours, have the prayer leader read both the call and response parts aloud to avoid awkard delays. Everyone else still participates, but with their individual microphones muted.
2. Offer individual prayer intentions - The prayer leader then asks if anybody would like to offer individual prayer intentions. The team then chimes in with any personal or professional requests for prayers. We've found that this adds a valuable, personal touch and an opportunity for the team to grow in faith together. To close this portion of the routine, the prayer leader offers some extemporaneous prayers of their own.
3. Ask St. Joseph for his intercession - We're big fans of the Prayer to St. Joseph the Worker (mentioned above). To end each prayer session, the leader recites this prayer (while our remote team members participate with their individual microphones muted).
